However, the good news is that online universities and online colleges offer students the flexibility to choose their own convenient time and place to study. Online schools provide ease of access to students who are working and/or homebound; and offer valuable educational and training opportunities in the privacy of your own home or office setting, and at your own designated convenience. Self-directed, an assortment of online coursework and online degrees may be attained through successful assignment and exam completion requirements (dependent on individual online curriculums).

On another note, online schools and online colleges afford students with distance learning communities that permit students to collaborate with each other and discuss courses and homework; and to grant an interactive setting that provides customizable dialogue between like-minded individuals. In many cases, instructor feedback is given to students at intervals to evaluate overall progress.

How much time will it take? As with any educational program, online schools do require a fair amount of commitment from their students; however, the incentive that online schools offer is allowing students the choice of when they would like to devote that time to the school. Typically, online schools expect students to spend anywhere from 12 to 15 hours per week on class assignments; as this will provide the maximum experience of the learning process. Certainly, online universities can be advantageous to persons who are enthusiastic about learning new technologies, and are comfortable with working independently.

What can you expect from an online learning program? Most times, online schools provide students with comprehensive audio and visual text and graphics to support one’s education process. Levels of online educational programs vary, and may supply students with opportunities to attain distance education courses ranging from high school diplomas to PhD programs.

Like many schools, online schools provide educational curriculums, which may include Arts & Humanities; Business; Education; Engineering; Health; Social Sciences; Criminal Justice; Technology; Science and related subtopics

How To Protect Yourself Fom Online Education Degree Scams

With so many people today turning to online colleges and universities to get an advanced degree, a mad rush is on to fill the needs of these education consumers. And it's no wonder that online degree programs are so popular because they allow the student to work at their own pace, set their own flexible schedule for study and homework, and save money by eliminating all the costs associated with staying on campus.

However, the popularity of these online education programs has produced a new internet scam, the diploma mill. By posing as a legitimate school some web sites are able to cheat consumers out of their hard earned money instead by providing essentially worthless online degrees at an apparent bargain. And unfortunately, many have been very successful at this, deceiving many smart and intelligent online consumers. So how do you protect yourself against this kind of online education fraud?

Well the best way is to be sure that any school or distance-learning program that you choose is fully accredited. This means that the school or program has been reviewed by its peers in the education field and validated or verified as providing a high quality education according to excepted educational standards. This assures you then that the education you will receive at this particular online college or university is worth investing in because it is generally recognized for its educational value.It also means that a degree in this program will be valuable as you attempt to find employment later on.

Although being sure that a distance learning program is fully accredited is important, these days is becoming necessary to take it even a step further. It seems that some of these diploma mills had even gone so far as to set up their own accreditation agencies so that it will appear that they are an accredited school when in reality they are only accrediting themselves through another agency that they also own.

So how can you make sure that a school is legitimately accredited then? Perhaps the best way to do that is to visit the Council for Higher Education Accreditation or CHEA website. This is a nongovernmental agency that does research on accreditation issues in the education field. Basically they maintain a list of accrediting agencies that are up to proper standards. So all you have to do to be sure that a particular distance learning school is legitimately accredited is to visit their web site, enter the name of the educational institution, and conduct research to see if it's accreditation is indeed by legitimately recognized agency.

Essentially this means that you not only have to check that an online college or university is accredited, but also that the accrediting agency is reputable as well. This may seem to be a lot of extra steps to have to go through, but doing so will help assure you that whatever distance learning degree program that you choose will be a wise investment for your future education and employment

Online Education and the Challenge of Motivation

Getting an online education is both a very thrilling proposition and a challenging one as well. It is quite exciting to learn through a very new and non-traditional form of education and it offers a set of new challenges that would compel individuals to really immerse themselves in what they are doing.

Unfortunately, even with an educational format as new as online education, the same old problems that plague students would usually crop up. The most common difficulty a student encounters is losing the motivation to continue studying. This feeling is further exacerbated by the unique environment that a student must contend with in an online education course. Being alone with no real classmates to act as real-time sounding boards and given the free rein to handle your time it becomes a challenge to really get into the groove of studying. Since online education classes are a new education format, it also does not possess many of the known support systems that we can find inside a traditional school structure. These support systems are what helps keep students motivated. The lack of social interaction can also be a significant contributing factor for online education students easily losing the motivation to study.

Losing motivation is quite difficult because it could become difficult to stay focused on what needs to be done. Losing the impetus to study will make it very difficult to prepare for exams or tests, complete assignments and finish projects. Motivation is what drives a person to study through the boredom, the tedium and the difficulties. Without motivation, the whole purpose of taking online education classes loses meaning. It would be just so easy to quit and stop taking the classes at the risk of losing the tuition paid for the online classes.

For those who may be worried that they may lose their motivation, the good news is that it can be restored or reinforced. Below are some tips given by many education experts as a way of keeping motivated.

* One way to stay motivated is to identify a goal and work towards its attainment. Try to focus on small goals that can be easily fulfilled. You can mark off a calendar with daily and weekly goals that you are required to accomplish. As you fulfill each goal cross it out with a pen. This process helps you build up your pride in your accomplishments.

* Try to talk to other people about what you are learning in your online classes. This process is usually done with your classmates in a traditional school system but because of the nature of online education, you really do not have classmates in the traditional sense. What you can do is talk to family members and friends about what you have learned in your online classes. One other thing you can do is to try to arrange a chat with your instructor so that you can have some time to discuss the subjects and/or curriculum with him.

* Try to be active in forums related to your course or classes. Even though there are no real physical ways of meeting fellow students in an online course most educational institutions that offer online education provide chatrooms or forums where you can chat with other people taking the same courses. These chatrooms or forums provide ample opportunity for different kinds of interactions with fellow students. You can use it to get to know other students personally and if you find one that lives near you, then you can probably arrange to meet with them regularly to discuss your subjects. You can set up online study groups that other students who taking the same course can use.

Your Needs Regarding Online Education

In a nutshell, online education requires self-discipline, organization, and the ability to use modern technology. Students must be able to learn through written words, not audible words. And they must feel comfortable sharing information over the Internet. Students must also believe their education can be learned without ever stepping foot in a traditional classroom setting.

To determine whether or not online education is right for you, you need to be honest with yourself and ask the following questions?

Why do you really want to return to college?

Understanding the real reason for returning to college is vital to your success. If you're returning to college just to have something to do in the evenings, returning to college is not for you. But if you are returning to college to better your lifestyle, get a raise, advance your career, or set an example for your children, then there's a 90% chance you'll not only complete your courses, but get a good education in the process.

Why do you want to pursue an online education instead of attending a traditional in-person college?

"Research indicates that quiet students often thrive in online courses," says Dr. Stella Thompson, an online Assistant Professor of English at Prairie View A&M University. "This environment enables quiet students to consider a response and to compose and revise that response multiple times before making their knowledge public."

Do you tend to quit a project due to lack of motivation?

If you can't stay motivated on your own, an online institution is not your best choice for getting a degree. Attending an online college means you must be self-motivated. You won't find the professor, or another student reminding you to get to work, stay on task, or turn your assignments in on time. "Completing a degree online demonstrates a tremendous commitment and discipline on behalf of the student," says Shari Sterling, Director of Enrollment Management at Northcentral University. "The student must be self-motivated to be successful."

Do you work better alone or with other people around?

Can you work in solitude? While you may be networking with other people through the Internet, you won't see these people face-to-face and that can feel isolating at times. Do you need in-person study groups to help you complete assignments and shoot ideas off of, or can you find the same help from Internet interaction? Why does one method work better for you than the other?

Do you learn better by reading, by listening, or by seeing?

When you read information, do you comprehend what you've read easily or must you read the information several times to understand what is being said? If you find it difficult to comprehend information when read, and learn better through visual or audible techniques, you may want to find a traditional institution.

Can you write your thoughts down so others understand what points you are conveying?

Since online courses require the use of written words to ask and answer questions, as well as turning in assignments, you must be comfortable with sharing your ideas in written form.

How many hours can you devote to learning, studying, and homework?

You need to set aside time every day to work on your courses. Whether you're researching, reading, completing an assignment, or meeting your classmates in an online forum, your education needs to have a priority in your busy schedule.

"Just because you don't have to attend school at a particular time everyday, doesn't mean you don't need a daily or weekly regimen," says Terri Main, an online instructor and teacher of 20 years. Your schedule "may vary from day to today, or simply be spending 30 minutes a day on your education, but it needs to be consistent."

Does your work require you to travel a lot?

If you're constantly away from your home computer, it can be difficult to get your assignments done. However, it's not impossible. If you travel a lot, you'll need to invest in a laptop computer and wireless Internet access.

Do you have a working computer in your home?

If your computer is over two years old, it could be outdated and unable to handle the demands of attending an online institution. You need to find out what kinds of software programs are needed for the course you plan to take and if your computer has enough RAM, and hard drive space. Keep in mind that you can use an older computer, but if it doesn't have enough memory or space to run a particular program it will stall and freeze, which can be very frustrating and eventually cause you to quit.

Do you have dial-up Internet access or high-speed cable/DSL?

The courses you take will determine which Internet access is best. If you have dial-up Internet access, you'll need to set aside more time for research, uploading, and downloading.

Do you understand how the Internet works?

When taking online courses, you'll need to understand more than just how to log onto the Internet. You'll need to understand:

• how search engines work;

• how to send and receive email;

• how to attach documents in an email;

• how to download programs or documents to your computer;

• how to find downloads later, when you need them;

• how to use hyperlinks;

• how to use chat rooms, message boards, forums, or instant messaging and what the proper etiquette is;

• how to protect your private information; and

• how to protect your computer from hackers, spam, and viruses.

Do you know how to cut and paste?

Sometimes you'll need to take information you've written in one program and put it in another program. This is called "cut and paste." If you don't know how to do this, find out how before you begin your online education.

Do you find learning new computer programs easy or hard?

Depending on the online course you take, you may need to download new software programs. If you find it difficult to learn new computer technology, you'll need to either set aside more time for learning, or take a traditional class

Why Online Education Is More Important Than Food Or Drink

Focusing on the importance of online education is why I ask you to step back in time to when your children were babies. Remember when you taught them to talk/walk. Remember hearing babys first word like dada/mama one of the most pleasurable experiences in your life. Remember that special moment when baby took his/her first steps where you waited in anticipation to welcome them with open arms of which baby fell into after the third step.

Remember the time when your back was turned for a split second and baby had scaled the height of the staircase causing panic and hysteria. You would beg baby to stay put while you challenged those stairs at a pace beyond belief to secure babys safety. Remember the nights you paced the floor trying to ease babys pains.

Can you remember what your child found important in their early years of growing up? Well let me remind you, it was their age. Numbers played an important role and meant so much to the children e.g. if you asked your child their age you got the exact figures like 5 years and 19 days old. Sense of power was given to the oldest of the street gang because the leader was 5 days older than contester.

If your child had a scuffle with another kid and come of the worst those words from mum/dad like well go hit them back were useless because you had the famous words thrown back into your face, I cant they are ten days older than me. So you see how important numbers meant to your child when growing up. Why change things now when they are even more essential than you could imagine. Online education besides eating and drinking is the next best thing to survival.

Why is education more important than food and drink. Without it no decent meal on the table.

Caring for your teen the right way is to encourage them to further their education. Without doubt this will prove to be the best parental move you could ever make. If baby is still a toddler then nurture them with more knowledge. Remember as vital education is, children need to grow up in the way nature intended and that is to play and enjoy their childhood. There is no need to push more than necessary to force is not the answer. If your child is pushed then expect a rebellious unhappy child. Online education is this answer for this, depending on the age of the child learning programmes on the internet are carefully devised so baby gets to learn as well as enjoy.

Education has to be number one priority for all parents who want their child to succeed or at least have a chance in leading a comfortable life. It is sad to say without an education under your belt you get to stay at the bottom of any list for advancing forward. There are people who disagree with the system and how it works meaning no knowledge no hope. I also feel the same but hey think about it, it is not a bad thing to know a little more.

Just a reminder, we queue outside our home towns travelling hundreds of miles to keep a dental appointment. Patient lists as long as your arm is still on the increase for hospital treatment. And I am afraid the education system will be next when a time limit is imposed on when we can or can not further our education. Unless you do something fast expect to stand in that forever growing queue as long as the china wall to collect your social security

The Secrets to Finding the Right Online School

Do you want to complete an online degree?

Obtaining a degree online can seem like a dream come true. You can improve your education (and chances for a better job), while learning from the comfort of your home.

But how do you know what program or university is right for you?

Picking the best Internet university may seem like a daunting task, but in truth it can be broken down into a few easy steps. Let’s get started…

Like the standard college or university, an online degree has a high level of standard. So the first step is to ensure that you meet the academic requirements. To do this, you must see if you can match or exceed the minimum GPA, courses taken and a high enough score from the appropriate standardized test.

The next step is to look for a school that is accredited from a recognized educational body. Most of the time, it will be obvious if an online university has an accreditation. This is because the online degree course will be part of a well-known institutional body. To help you out the Department of Education has six different accrediting bodies that you can use to research your potential school.

Thirdly, you should check out the degree program that you will be focusing on. You need to find out if this particular program is right for you. So talk to your prospective professors, check out their educational background, and ask to talk to current students. Also find out what some of the alumni are doing, and if their lives were enriched by receiving their online degree. By doing this, you are getting an idea of how the online college operates.

The final factor is if you can afford to take an online course. Some of the costs include tuition, books, special online fees and admin costs. Sometimes, you can end up spending more then you would at your standard university. So it is important to analyze your finances and see if you can afford to pay these fees.

By paying attention to these factors, you will find it easy to avoid the prevalence of so-called diploma mills. You will receive a degree that both you and your employer will be proud of.

Online Education: GED vs. Fake High School Diploma

For today's student, distance learning is a worthwhile and affordable way to work toward a GED, usually the most official way for an adult to demonstrate the skills of a high school graduate. But there are a growing number of companies and schools who aren't really in the business of education. Instead, they're in the education business -- their main business is selling quick and easy programs or simple online tests, complete with worthless transcripts and fake diplomas.

There are exceptions. But as a rule most transcripts and diplomas ordered or obtained from online high schools are useless. Unfortunately, students and adult learners are often and easily misled by diploma factories or diploma mills. Many of these companies and 'schools' appear to be professional businesses or accredited educational institutions. So, when selecting online education, it's smart to be cautious. Make sure the online learning solution is a real solution, and will help you achieve your goals.

First, it pays to understand how diploma factories work. Many adult learners fall victim to diploma scams, usually paying $200 to $800 in tuition, testing, transcript or diploma fees. But because the school or program isn’t accredited, the diploma has no value. When it comes to employers, job training programs, tech schools, community colleges and universities, bogus diplomas are useless. And often, new 'graduates' don't learn that a diploma has no value until they're told by an employer or a college admissions department.

In most cases, the GED -- the term for General Education Development credential -- is the official 'diploma' that's meaningful for adults who never completed their high school education. For today's 34 to 38 million adults in the US who never graduated from high school, passing the GED test is a pass key to both career and educational opportunities. That's because approximately 95 percent of employers and even more US colleges and universities accept the GED.

When choosing an education program, a student's best bet is a GED solution, whether enrolling in a local GED class or using a self-guided online GED program. If online learning or distance learning is the solution you need, look for a program that includes all the components necessary to prepare for the GED test.

Here are some guidelines for choosing a quality learning solutions provider and avoiding bogus schools or fake diploma scams:

* GED guidelines are established by the American Council on Education. Under the agency's rules, the test covers science, social studies, language arts reading and writing, and math -- including algebra, geometry and data analysis. Find a program that includes all testing areas; avoid any solution or school that doesn’t include all test areas or information about test areas and the ACE's requirements.

* GED practice tests are available online. These tests are a good way for a student to determine skill strengths and weaknesses and to understand how the test works. But the actual GED test cannot be taken online! The test is only given at official test sites. So avoid any company that claims to offer the official GED test or a quick version online.

* Read the fine print, before you pay -- make sure you understand what the company or school is offering and determine if it's worth the price. Is it a worthwhile learning process or just a fake diploma? Will it help you progress in your career or education? Ask for advice if you're not sure.

* Look for outside information about companies or schools. Discover what other teachers, students and adult learners have experienced. Contact a department of education. Explore GED and education message boards, online forums or learning communities. Are there complaints, or reports of success?

* Be very cautious in dealing with any company or online high school that offers a diploma or transcript after passing a quick online test. The GED test is hard! The exam is a timed 7.5-hour test

You can obtain degrees, bachelors, and masters and so on this way. In fact you can study for just about everything and anything this way. Setting Up Online Training

If you're a business owner looking for a way to train your employees, online training is a convenient and affordable way to get the job done. Training programs can be set up on your office network or the internet and employees can access them from work or home. This makes training convenient for workers, and affordable for employers, who don't have to pay the expenses of sending people out of town for training or shut their businesses down while employees train. Companies use online training for anything from introducing new software, to improving the way workers answer the phones, to keeping employees aware of new workplace legislation.

To begin your online training program you need to develop a lesson plan detailing how the information will be presented to your workers. Then you need to implement the plan, setting up the website where employees will access their lessons. Finally, you'll want a way of measuring their progress. Later in this article we'll examine your employees' needs when it comes to online learning and the methods you can use for training. First let's look more closely at what's involved in starting the training program.

Most likely you already know what you want employees to learn, but unless you have previous experience as a teacher, it's unlikely you'll know the best way to get this message through to them. You can approach this problem in two ways. The first is to use an employee training school. These schools have online programs designed to handle common work place training topics and their programs can be implemented in your office. As well, many of them design custom programs if they don't already have something that fits your requirements. The level of assistance they provide is entirely up to you. They may just design the lessons for you, or they may put together the entire website and even help you find a place to host it online. Try looking on the internet for "employ training online" or "custom employee training" and your search engine is likely to return a list of companies that provide these services.

If you already have experience in web design, a second way to approach the situation would be to consult an online teacher. A teacher can develop the lesson plans or advise you as to the best method you can use to get your message through to workers. An online teacher can help you convert a classroom based training program into one that works online. Depending on the nature of the training, you might need to hire an online teacher to assist your workers. For example, a teacher may be needed to grade exams or they may interact with students daily, helping them understand the lessons.

The final component of your training program is developing a method of measuring progress. You could use online quizzes that students take after each lesson or a final exam that is taken once all the lessons are complete. Both multiple choice and long answer tests can be created with online software. Another option is to monitor the training website keeping track of how often employees log on and how long they stay logged on per session.

The Changing World of Online Education

Why Are There More Online College Degrees?

One big reason why you may find it is becoming much easier to take an online class is a law passed by Congress in March. For years, colleges had to offer at least half their courses face-to-face in order for their students to qualify for federal financial aid. But the new law changes all that. Now, schools no longer need to offer half their classes in person--they can offer them all online if they like--and their students can receive federal financial aid. The new law makes it easier for schools, and thereby students, to invest fully in online college degree programs.

Who Is Taking Advantage of Online University Education?

Data from a recent survey on adult education conducted by the U.S. Department of Education showed that adults with children under the age of 10 are among the fastest growing group of higher education participants. With adults trying to balance work and family life, an online university is a great option for those adults not afraid to go online for a college degree.

Knowledge Put in Practice

One of the major advantages adults will discover while pursuing an online college degree while still employed is how quickly knowledge gained through their online class can be put into practice. An online university student can learn something one evening and put their knowledge to work the very next day.

Online College Degree vs. Traditional College Degree

Perhaps one of the misconceptions about online college degree programs is that an online university degree isn't as valuable as a traditional college degree. Nothing could be further from the truth. In fact, you'll find most online college degree programs exceed traditional programs in terms of ease of learning and faculty access. The only question that remains is which online college degree program is best for you?

An Online Degree Opens Doors

The More You Know: Online Degree Programs

The statistics above clearly show that the higher your education, the more likely you are to remain employable. For those interested in avoiding the unemployment line, education opportunities abound online. What are some online degree programs that could result a more prosperous future?

Online Education for Tomorrow's Workforce

Online education has come a long way in a few short years. There are online degree programs available that can help you land a job in just about any conceivable industry. You can find an online college program specializing in education and teaching, computers and information technology, medicine and nursing, criminal justice, and business.

Another CNN/Money article found that the most lucrative education, online or offline, is in computer science, where software engineers can expect salaries as high as $80,000 per year.

Smart People Are Always Learning

Noted author Harvey Mackay once said, "Never stop learning! Don't limit yourself to only work-related classes, either. Learn everything about every subject that you can." Even educated people can benefit from additional online college courses.

Beyond online degree programs and courses, you can also get job training for a new field or a field you are already in with online education. Today, online education programs are available in fields like real estate, fashion and interior design, heating and air conditioning, and even travel and tourism. There is no limit to the kinds of education you can find online.

Online Training Can Keep You Employed

What Can You Do to Remain Employable?

There are no guarantees in today's world. Just because you have years of experience, there is no assurance that you'll have a job tomorrow, much less next year. One way you can improve your chances of avoiding the unemployment line is to enroll in online training or online learning programs to increase your skill set. E-learning is one of the best educational options for someone who wants to continue to work while they go to school.

Online Learning: The Key to Continued Success

A common mistake many people make is replacing their old job with a similar job at another company. Often they don't have an opportunity to advance to a better position because they haven't increased their skills through continued education. Online learning programs are a great way to keep up-to-date in the latest information in your industry or break into a new industry all together. If you're always learning, you're always employable.

Where the Jobs Are

Figuring out which online learning program is the right one could be as simple as reviewing the Bureau of Labor Statistics' Occupational Outlook Handbook, available on their website. It provides information on trends for 300 of the most popular jobs in the United States and can give you an idea of what areas are growing, so you can choose online learning or online training programs that will put you in a position of power in the labor market in your chosen field or another growing field.

E-Learning and You

For working adults, e-learning is a great option for updating your skills. E-learning allows working adults to take online training courses when it's convenient for them, without interfering with their current career and family obligations. With online learning programs available in just about every discipline imaginable, the only question left is how e-learning will change your life.

Hate Traffic? Earn a Bachelor's Degree Online

As gasoline has become a bigger expense, commuting anywhere--even the gym or the store--can add up to a hefty price tag. If the thought of driving back and forth to campus is holding you back from your dream degree, it's time to explore the world of distance learning. With online education, you can attend class and earn your bachelor degree completely online.

Choose to Earn a Bachelor's Degree Online

The Internet has solidified its place in the world, and few people hesitate to shop, network, socialize, and express themselves in the forum it provides. More people than ever before are also choosing distance learning through the Internet.

By enrolling in a distance learning program to earn a bachelor degree, you can attend class from the comfort of your home computer or a laptop nearly anywhere in the world. However, this doesn't mean that you must be a computer genius to attend online class. A basic knowledge of computers and the Internet is typically all that's required to participate in distance learning.

A Day in Online Class

The beauty of online classes, especially in this era of astronomical gas prices, heavy traffic, and busy schedules, is that you can usually log in whenever and wherever you want, as long as you have a computer with Internet access.

Before enrolling in your distance education program, be sure to ask whether your class is synchronous or asynchronous. If it's asynchronous, you will be able to attend on your own time entirely. However, if it's synchronous, you will need to log on at specific dates and times.

Do your homework on distance learning, and you're sure to find an online class that's right for you. Before you know it, you could be earning your bachelor degree online.

The Versatile Online Associate Degree

Ready for a change? An online associate degree is ideal for working professionals who don't have the time or money to quit their current jobs. This one- to two-year distance degree gives you the freedom to choose the career you want.

Instead of extensive, four-year education, associate degree programs focus your training into a year or two, giving you the power to find a new career without taking too much time from your current job. Plus, online associate degree programs come with good news: According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the list of fastest-growing jobs through 2014 is packed with careers that typically require an associate degree.

Distance Degree Career Possibilities
Here are just a few of the high-growth job possibilities that call for an associate degree:

* Physical therapist assistants
* Dental hygienists
* Forensic science technicians
* Veterinary technologists and technicians
* Diagnostic medical sonographers
* Occupational therapist assistants
* Cardiovascular technologists and technicians
* Paralegals and legal assistants

When considering a distance degree, consider the range of opportunities the online associate degree gives you. Your career possibilities can include anything from business to education to information technology and beyond. According to the National Science Foundation, more than a fifth of individuals employed in science and engineering fields held less than a bachelor's degree, with 17% holding an associate degree.

If you're unsure about how far you want to take your education, an online associate degree is a good first step. It's a low-commitment degree, which means you spend less time and money on your education. Students often choose an online associate degree in order to specialize in a field, or to take on a stable career while considering further specialization or education online. These reasons make the online associate degree one of the most versatile distance degree programs.

Take the Next Step with an Online Class

Perhaps you've seen ads for distance education on TV or in print, or you've heard about earning a bachelor's degree online from a friend or acquaintance. But have you taken the time to consider whether online classes are an option for you?

You may have reservations about earning a degree online, but the buzz about online education is more than just hype. More people than ever before are enrolling in distance learning programs to earn their bachelor degrees online. Why the sudden popularity of distance learning? Online classes have gained substantial credibility as the Internet grows.

Depending on Distance Learning

There was a time, not so long ago, when the Internet seemed like a vague idea on the horizon. Since its introduction into everyday life, however, the Web has done nothing but expand by leaps and bounds--and the world of distance learning has grown right along with it.

In past years, the idea of ordering a sweater online, let alone airline tickets, would have made many people scoff. These days, hardly anyone thinks twice about such electronic transactions.

Enrolling in an online class has become an everyday activity as well. No longer is it unheard of to earn a bachelor's degree online. In fact, most traditional colleges are creating sophisticated distance learning programs for a variety of nontraditional students.

A Demand for Distance Learning

The increasing availability of distance learning programs is a direct consequence of higher demand for online education, and the abundance of technology to make it easy.

Taking an online class is an extremely popular option for people whose busy lives make it difficult to commute back and forth to a traditional campus and stick to a set class schedule. With distance learning, students can earn their bachelor degrees online, on their own time, from a home computer or laptop. Most distance learning programs allow you to choose exactly when you attend class, so you can work toward your bachelor's degree whether it's midnight or noon, seven days a week.

It's time to take a serious look at the programs that might suit your needs. There's a reason for the buzz: distance learning works.

Online Education: Learning from Home

If you've been dreaming of an educational goal that will take your career to the next level, but you're afraid you don't have the time, you need to consider distance learning.

Distance learning allows you to attend classes online, eliminating the need to commute to campus, stick to a strict class schedule or do homework at specific times.

The Beauty of Taking an Online Class

One of the key benefits of distance learning for busy people is the adaptability of the online class schedule, and the flexibility of the whole process. The beauty of online classes is that you can study from the comfort of your home computer, or on the road with a laptop. It's possible to attend class without missing work or spreading yourself too thin among family, friends, and other commitments.

In fact, if your distance learning program offers an asynchronous schedule, you won't even have to log in to your online class at a specific day or time. You get to choose when you log on, so you set the pace at which you earn your bachelor degree online.

Distance Learning Opens More Doors

Earning a bachelor degree online tells potential employers that you are completely comfortable in a computer-oriented environment. Most employers look favorably upon graduates of distance learning, because it means these candidates should be ready to hit the ground running in a high-tech office environment.

As you can see, there are many reasons to pursue a distance learning program, and the flexibility of an online class schedule is just the beginning.

Once Upon a Time … Children's Writing Courses Online

There once was a kingdom where children devoured piles of books at a time, stretching their imaginations as far as they would go. See how an online training course can give you the inspiration and practical knowledge you need to be a children's writer.

If you've raised children, you already know the power of a child's imagination. Refrigerator boxes become castles, couches are trampolines, and the new carpet is a lava field, passable only by leaps across dining room chairs.

Adults who write for children still have a part of that exciting imagination within them, and a love and empathy for children that no distance learning program can teach. But if you've already got that, an online training course can teach you necessary elements of the business.

Learn the Basics with a Course Online

A course online in children's writing can give you structured training, providing the inspiration to produce and refine your ideas, along with information on how to write an exciting query letter, find an agent and a publisher, and finally see your work in print.

Many children's writers have a lot of imagination, but not a lot of experience with the business of writing. Distance learning programs in children's writing are a perfect place to start, because they blend creative training with practical knowledge. A typical online course in children's writing may include classes on copyright law, publishers, writer's block, writing for the popular market, finding an illustrator, and more.

The Benefits of Online Training

Have you ever gone to school in your pajamas? Taking a course online means that you can study and learn at your own pace. If you have children to care for, or a demanding job, enrolling in a distance learning program can mean more freedom to learn when you find the time.

After you take a course online to learn the details behind the children's writing industry, you can have more confidence to write and publish professional children's writing. And that's a happy ending

Online Education From Satellite Locations

Online education courses are generally assumed to be those courses completed from your home, but you can also find some online education opportunities from satellite locations. There are some obvious benefits to taking online or distance learning classes from a satellite location, but first you may wonder why anyone would take this route in searching for educational advancement.

Geographic location is arguably the most common reason for seeking out online education courses from a satellite location. Even if you live in a college town, you may want to take classes that are not offered locally. If you don't have even a community college nearby, you may find yourself faced with three equally unappealing options - drop the idea of taking the classes, traveling several hours each time the class meets, or moving. Online education from satellite locations eliminates the need for you to make any of those choices.

Online education in the form of distance learning has become a popular option for public and private schools that have trouble recruiting teachers for specific subjects. In order to offer some classes, these schools become satellite locations. They associate themselves with another school that does offer the class and the students at the satellite location have the opportunity to take the class along with students at the main location. Two way communication, including video feed, allow students in both classes to interact with the teacher and with each other. Sometimes, additional satellite locations meet at the same time and it's not unusual for three or four classes to share time and teacher.

The advantage is that students get to interact, ask questions and hear discussion in real time, but aren't required to be physically present at the main classroom. That concept is being offered in locations around the world for a myriad of courses. To find classes available at a satellite location near you, check with local schools, colleges or universities, or your local library. You may be amazed to discover what's offered in the way of online education at satellite locations right in your home town, right around the corner, or even right on your personal computer screen.

Online Education Courses Learn to Do Anything

Online education courses are a great way to learn many things. With the sheer number of people today who have regular access to the Internet, the opportunities to learn these things are far greater than they were just a decade or two ago. Without online education, the only way to learn a new skill or take a class would be to physically attend that class or find someone who could teach you privately. Because of the technology of online education, there are literally thousands of things you can learn and many of them can be studied right from the privacy of your own home.

In many cases, the fact that you are learning from home can be a real benefit. Consider the privacy you have in your home. If you are learning something new, there's no need for others to even know you are studying this particular subject. You may be embarrassed to let others know that you don't already have this knowledge, or it might simply be in your best interest that others don't know. For example, you may be seeking to gain a training certificate that will put you in line for a promotion. It might be politically incorrect in your current employment to be making this move. Your current supervisor might resent the fact that you want to move up. While secrecy is never a good thing, being discreet about your plans might be a wise move. You may even be looking for employment elsewhere and taking online education courses may be a stepping stone to that move. Again, letting your current employer know about your educational goals could be cause for tension in your current work environment.

It could also be that you just want to learn something new. You'll find literally hundreds of online education courses available. Whether you're wanting to learn to sew or you want to work on a degree, you can likely find an online education program that's just right for you

Online Education Used for College Classes

When most people hear the words, “online education,” their first thought is of those adults who are seeking out new skills or training or who are looking for a degree with limited time to commit to the process. But many colleges are utilizing online education for traditional college students. There are some major benefits for both student and teacher, and these college classes are eliminating some of the negative points of online education.

The major advantage for both student and teacher is the fact that much of the course work can be completed at the student's leisure within the confines of time restrictions established by the teacher. Often, online education is used in conjunction with regular class times. For example, a class that is scheduled to meet three times each week might only meet once a week or even less often. Students know ahead of time when class will physically meet and when assignments will be online only.

Finding the motivation to stay on track with assignments is a major problem for many students of online education. The fact that the students are given deadlines for completing assignments help them stay caught up with the class even if they wouldn't have had the motivation to do so on their own. Because classes still meet at least occasionally, the students have an opportunity to interact with other students. Discussion boards increase the students' interaction with each other and with the teacher, allowing other students to view the threads of conversation.

Online education classes are especially beneficial when the course work is related to the computer or Internet. Students are encouraged to be online more often simply to check messages from the teacher and other students, and to keep track of assignments. But online education courses are also a valuable option for other subjects as well.

An online education has both real benefits and some real drawbacks, but by combining the classroom with the technology of online education, college students get the best of both worlds

Disadvantages of Online Education

Although there are many advantages of an online education, there are also some disadvantages. The fact that you are working on your own could very well be one of the major disadvantages of taking online educational classes.

Consider the busy lifestyle of most people. Between work and family responsibilities, the average person has little time to dedicate to outside pursuits even when those pursuits could mean a better job, more money and better benefits. Simply finding the time to attend regular classes may be impossible so an online education becomes a viable option. But the same reason that online education is a great option - lack of time - is the very reason that online education is often difficult.

When you're attending a traditional class, you go to school at a prearranged times. You are expected to be in class and you are forced to keep up with your instructor's assignment schedule or risk failing the course. With an online education, there is probably no one checking your progress on a regular basis. You may be given some guidance along the way, but you and you alone are usually responsible for working your way through the course. Since you can work at your own pace, some people find themselves putting the work off until they don't have enough time to finish the requirements.

If there are no time requirements, the opportunities to put off working on the material is even greater. You can literally go for weeks or months (or even years) without finishing the material to get credit for the course. You've paid for the opportunity to learn, but a lack of motivation is often the downfall of those who seek out online education.

Another major disadvantage is the lack of interaction. You aren't in a classroom and don't have the opportunity to hear questions and discussion from other students. This isn't always an issue, depending on the subject of the online education course you are taking, but it could be an important factor in deciding whether an online education is the best option when seeking out opportunities for learning new skills or gaining new training.

Advantages To Online Education

There are some major advantages to online education, including the ability to set your own study time. There are dozens of reasons to go back to school but there are also dozens of reasons not to. You may be looking for a promotion or career change that requires additional training, or you may simply be ready to learn something new. But with today's busy lifestyle, there's little time to devote to regularly scheduled class time. That's where online education can be a great asset for a motivated person.

Many people - especially adults who have already started a family - are faced with some major decisions as they decide how to spend their time. Typically, work takes the majority of the daytime hours. That leaves only a few hours each day that could be dedicated to education. If there are children, soccer practice and dance recitals will take up a large part of the time that's left. Creating some time for personal socialization is necessary to avoid burn out and you may very well be left with only an hour or two each day to work on an education.

Even with the few hours you have free on an average day, you're faced with the problem of finding those courses you need close to home. Unless you're fortunate enough to live in a university town, you're likely to be traveling several hours each time you attend class. That's never a problem with online education because the “classroom” is as near as your computer room and you'll “attend class” at your convenience.

The fact that you have no location requirements and can actually work on your online education from anywhere is another great advantage. Perhaps you can spend your lunch hour each day with a sandwich in front of your computer at work. Maybe you schedule study time at night after the rest of the family has gone to bed or you may even be an early bird who likes to study in the mornings. No matter what your time requirements or restrictions, you'll find that you can easily make your online education a reality.
